3RZ ps pump with IFS steering gear...FLUID?
« on: Oct 27, 2013, 09:04:11 AM »
So I have been running a 3rz ps pump with an ifs steering box for about five years and i just noticed on the 3rz ps pump fill cap it says use dextron auto tranny fluid..  I noticed this while replacing my high press. line that had a leaky crimp fitting...  Ive also burned up a pump in the past..  I have always ran pow steer. fluid in it I never saw that it calls for ATF... I have 35 inch tires and Im not running hydro ass. or anything.. Anyway I been questioning myself if the ifs box will run ok with the ATF cause the older trucks these steer boxes came off called for pow steer fluid i believe... I went ahead and used ATF cause I want my pump to work to its full potential.. My steering has always had a kind of a slow response when turning the wheels too fast on the street like it couldnt keep up.. just wondering if anyone has delt with this... Im curious if running the pow steer fluid in the 3rz pump caused my last pump burnout and my hp line fitting leak... :flamer:

sorry everyone apparently im a dumba** and belong in the newbie questions section...all these years of having toyotas and i just now learned they all use ATF for the pow steer, at least the 4x4 trucks anyway....just when you think you know everything   :screwy:

Every Toyota I have worked on has called for ATF, 79-present.
