Hey guys. Ive got an 82 yota I bought a couple years ago. Been slowly building it and has come along way. My trany is one of the next items to tackle but I'm pretty sure its not the origanal cuz it would be a L52 with a cast iron case right? we'll the one in there is not. What would i do to ID this thig?

L52 or L50. You wouldn't be able to tell for sure unless you tear into it. there are some numbers on the bottom of the trans that would tell you the manufacturing date.

I dont think its an L series because its all aluminum. Is there anything else to look for on the exterior? I dont want to rip it out yet and tear it apart. I took some pics to put on here but Im computer illiterate and dont know how to post.

Someone must have swapped it out on you then. Pictures would be the best thing then. If it all aluminum could be a g or w. hard to tell without pics. Stock what came in an 82 is an L-series.
