I have that same gun locker too!!  Except mine is covered in stickers.     It works to keep the kids out, and if anybody breaks in, there gonna have a tough time getting stuff out of it.

I really want a bigger gun safe, because mine is full!  And I still have about 3 more guns that need to be locked up.  But I have no space or financial means for a bigger one at this time.

I'm really digging the bank safe!!

Nice!  I got the green light from the roommates to get a safe, now just need to settle on which one and raise the funds :ack:

Got several buddies that have gun lockers that were put in place before the house was built around them.   My bathroom is smaller than their gun lockers.  :yikes:   Another friend had a welder come in and convert a closet into a gun safe.  My house is too small for anything I really want.  So, I have to stay with the small cheaper steel ones.  They do fine as long as you bolt them down.

After some reading, ( www.ar15.com ) most gun safes won't really save your weapons much.  Once the internals reach 350*, things start to happen.  Paper chars, the chance of ammo going off increases greatly, and if you don't get your guns out within 24 hours or less, you risk ruining your firearms to rust.  Just saw some pictures of BIG name gun safes go through some fires, and WOW!!!  I would have expected better from them.   :shake_head:

Thats where the temp ratings come into play.  For example, mine is good for 1200  for 1/2 an hour.  Anything more than that, and that internal temp gets too high.  This is really also based on whats too hot for metals (which is a common misconception of gun safes.  they aren't rated for protecting paper goods, and other more sensitive materials).  On a positive note though, is the idea that most residential structure fires don't burn that hot for that long.  This holds especially true if you keep the fire load around and above the safe to a minimum.  Not a good idea to stack a ton of books and papers around and on your safe in a closet.
