Axle questions

I have a 77 FJ40 and everything i read on here is for post 79 axles. What is the real difference between them. I tried the search and it did not come up with anything. This is my second yota. first one was a 97 taco and I only had it for 2 years. Any help would be great.

I think the earlier 40's, the axles are course splined, and drum brakes.  I'd have to really read into it to see what the difference is. 


Another good site that can help with LC's, is http://www.ih8mud.com/  they are LC heavy over there.  There's good info here too.  Just helping.
