WOULD YOU CONSIDER THIS TRADE?

Well, I've been half-assedly tryin to sell my 2wd 91 toy for a while but with no takers.  When I bought it 2 years ago I paid $3200 and at the time that's what they were all goin for.  Since deciding to sell it I can't get any offers anywhere near that, though everybody comments on how clean it is.  So now I see there's an 83 fj60 in the paper for $3000, says clutch slips but they have a new one, and I got to thinkin about tryin to get them to trade for the 91.  It's by far the most dependable truck I've had so realistically I should keep it forever, but it's just kinda boring and looks like an old lady's truck.  Hell, I even bought it from an old lady too.  It still has the stock wheels on it and a super clean snug top shell that has caused the rear leafs to sag a little so the front sits a little higher.  I'm never gonna get close to what I want but could probably get closer to that out of the LC if/when I ever decide to sell it.  If I get the lc I would wanna soa it and make it clear my 35s and just basically make it a comfortable reliable dd and light wheeler and keep it fairly low still.  Anyway, help me make up my mind whether or not I'll come out ahead on this one.  Thanks in advance,  Nate

forget it.  60's will clear 38's if you SOA them and shackle reverse the front , BTW.  They get BIG fast if you do that, and handle like poop too.  Trust me.  The 2wd makes a gread DD and gets good mileage...maybe just personalize the 2wd a little and make it less of an old ladys truck?

How about a solid axle swap on the 2wd?  Add a T-case, crossmember, front driveshaft and you'll be basically set.  All that stuff should bolt right up, 2wd and 4wd trucks had the same basic frame, right?

well  call and see if they would even consider the swap, if so  put some 33's on the LC and keep it simple for daily driving and light wheeling,   a rubicon truck doesnt make a comfy DD

I've done that w/ an 1980 toy and on a ford ranger It's not as hard as you would think. If you cand find an early 80's Datsun transfer case you can use the 2wd toy tranny  works like a champ

Ok, before we get too carried away and rabbit trail off too far remember this, I'm considering a trade or keeping my truck for dependability.  I don't know why I would wanna turn a super clean 2wd into a 4by, but it would be a good option if the truck were beat.  The other thing about that is I have a 1980 4by DD with over just over 500k mi(no relevance, just like sayin it), an 86 4by I just picked up w/a recent engine that I might make a comfortable DD or build up with this cool suspension idea I've been thinkin about, a lightly rolled 91 4runner that I could do the same to, an 87 2wd chassis I've been parting out that I could go crazy with or an 81 2wd that I could do whatever I want with.  So, with all this information you now understand why I wouldn't wanna hack up a clean, strong running 2wd.  Yea, I don't know if the guy will even consider the trade but that's not what this is about anyway, it's just kinda a question about whether or not you would do it if you were in my shoes.  Thanks for all the input, keep it all coming

Yea, I have a few extra.  The 91 and the 80 are the runners and the only ones worth looking at.  The 81 was the truck that made me move from Nissan to Toyota, it wasn't a looker when I bought it but I'd never driven a truck with that much power before, and when I test drove it it straight smoked the tires and I was like   and bought it on the spot for half what I sold the Nissan for.  I drove it for 95,000 mi over the next 5 years, including several trips from nor cal to Seattle, and one or two trips were with a bad head.  It's been parked since it donated it's heart to my 80, but will hopefully be revived soon.  The 86 could turn into a DD, a wheeler, sell it whole or part it out.  I don't have much into most of them except the 91 and that's why I wanna get some out of it.  The way it looks now is that I'll probably end up keeping it cause I'm a puss when it comes to big decisions like this, and I've slowly started making it mine.  I just had a CD player put in and robbed the speakers out of the 86, and am always looking for some cheaper wheels to de-gramma it more.  I need to drop the front about 1.5" or raise the back the same to make it look a little better.  Thing is I've already been promised a clean 72 chevy 3/4 ton 4by at some point, and I know one of the stipulations will be to get down to alteast 2 vehicles if not 1.  Anyway, that's another story altogether............

I imagine it depends on the person selling the Landcruiser.  If the seller is an older person or someone not really interested in 4 wheeling, maybe they would prefer the newer, cleaner truck.  Plus I'm sure the newer truck has more "creature comforts" than an older Landcruiser.  I'd call and ask if they'd consider the trade, sounds pretty fair to me, and old LC for a clean pickup, the seller may actually think he's making out on the deal.  Ya never know.

You'd expect the newer truck to have more creature comforts, but it was a bare bones model, but it does run really well and is fairly comfy.  And about the old nissan t-case, yea it's divorced.  The one I had before my first toy was an 84 king cab 4by, that thing would high center on a tall speed bump.  I don't think they became married till the hardbody came out.  And as far as sellin the 91 and havin money for the 4by, that aint the way it goes.  The whole reason I initially wanted to sell it was to pay back the loan, and if I sold it that's where most of the green would go, save maybe a little bit to get the gears done.
