I just picked up a 12000lbs warn winch got a smoking deal on it but after lifting this beast :yikes: and getting it home to my 81 pickup I am starting to think it might be a bit much. Is anyone else running a winch this big is the weight a problem is it worth having the extra pulling power? My father runs an 8000lbs on his S10 and my brother runs the same 8000lbs on his jeep xj both have never had a problem. I am thinking of selling this and or trading for a smaller 8000lbs  :help:

as always any info is greatly appreciated

Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

IronClad

Ive got one on the front of my rig. The weight is negligible, Id rather have too much winch than not enough.

I stuffed mine in a bit and notched my grille but overall its not huge huge

Not really overkill because remember, for every wrap (layer) of cable you lose a lot of pulling power. So for example with my 9k winch and 3 full wraps there's onto about 3k pulling power.

So just spool out more cable. Ive pulled a 4door full size ford stuck up to the frame in mud with my 8000 warn m8000, single line pull

Dingman.

If you can fit the winch i would run it.  Like ironclad said, i would rather have too much winch than not enough.
Warn's website says the m8000 weighs 74 lbs. And the m12000 weighs 136 lbs.  I dont know how much of a difference in weight you will notice, but at least you will have the pulling power.

Myself,  if i was going to buy one of the two brand new, i would go with the 8000.

i had 2 m12's on my old 68 bronco and absolutely loved them i say run it .
it's not me, it's you

OOPS

I am running a 12500 T-Max on the front of my 90. They are slow, but strong.

i think it is overkill, but you know it's never going to break a sweat.....

as long as you can sucessfully get it mounted up, i say go for it.....

12k winches are usually used on f350s

Mounting it is not a problem I am a welder/fabricator, I have built bumpers for winches for a couple rigs and they have all held up thus far... just haven't had a winch of my own and other then what I gotten from my family and friends ( all 8000lbs winches) don't know much about them.

Thank you all for the info guess its all up to me if I want to go through the work to get the beast to rest on the front of my rig
