#1 Go to the dumps, and pull up to the kiosk and ask what you weigh.  #2 I used to work for a juice manufacturer and they have a certified scale, at the Watsonville side of Freedom Blvd.  H.A. Rider & Sons, cost like 5 or 10 bucks to get the scale ticket.

Thanks.

Dump was going to be my first try.   Didn't even think about the Juice company. I use to ride my bike by that place every day on my way to work.

94 extra cab,v6 (3vz) SAS, 35's, duals, no gear (empty)

4,200 lbs verified last week at the dump...

it would be interesting to get a fully loaded weight, probably at least 5k lbs

3,400 pounds with 35s aired up full size spare, tool box with some assorted tools/doodads 22re and no tube work yet.

Had to laugh a little when I noticed that you specified that your full size spare is aired up.  Are your other tires not aired up?

Maybe using nitrogen instead of "air" would reduce the weight of our rigs?

Even though Nitrogen is less dense than air, it is only slightly lighter.  Try helium instead.  :gap:

I think helium comes with a built-in deflation feature that isn't always desired.  As you drive the weight increases.

I saw this outside a gas station last Sunday. There didn't seem to be any one around, there was no booth. What is the procedure to use this sort of scale? Do I have to go inside to prepay? Do I need a special permit to use it?

I didn't have time to check it out, but there was a screen to the right of the scale and it would be nice if I could just put in a few bucks and have it spit out a receipt. :yesnod:

First thing that came to mind for me.

Ok, I am in Tulare right now and this Cat scale is right off the freeway near Kingsburg. I'll roll my MR2 through there to check it out on my way home

thats not how they work

You pull on and there will be a box where you press a button  You can see it hanging off the pole there. You give your truck number/trailer number etc and then go inside and pay. There is no digital box outside to show your weight or anything.  The tickets are 5 bucks

Thanks  IronClad, this info is exactly what I was looking for. On my way back from the TLCA club meeting, I stopped by that Cat scale, but it was apparently closed down for the night. Here is a pic of the box at the scale (it had some "cover your rear" sign hanging on it).

So do you think they will print out a certified receipt for me if I don't have a truck number? :headscratch:

Id imagine they will. Just tell them you dont have a number and are a normal vehicle, They may ask for your name or somthing. Everytime i was on one i was in a big rig with all that type of info.  Weird that it was closed, Ive never seen a truck stop with a scale closed. Especially one with a CAT scale.  Did you press one of the lil yellow buttons? they dont actually press in so you might sit there going uhhhhh till the person inside says somthing. I know the first time i went over one in the big rig and pushed it i had no idea if it worked or not haha.
