So I'm just finishing up a lift, dual cases, and high steer mod to my 82. I've been working with a friend of mine who is a retired mechanical engineer, he has been doing my welding for me and done a fine job.

We have run into a little difference in opinion on rotating the rear pinion towards the tcase. First off I am going to run a cv shaft for the rear and all the install instructions across the board say to rotate the pinion towards the tcase. The reason he has a problem with the rotation is filling the diff to the proper level will be difficult and also the front pinion bearings will no longer be sitting in the gear oil. I didnt even think about this, but makes total sense. So I'm wondering what everyone has done to combat frying pinion bearings. Overfill the diff through the breather hole? I've seen 1st gen trucks lifted with out the pinion rotated before, but they seem to be very rare. Any help would be areciated. He is going to come down this weekend and we are going to finish up.........hopefully

I've heard of using an oil slinger, but I know a low pinion diff does not come with them. So I'll have to get into the diff to add. Hopefully it's not too involved, as I have never torn apart one of my thirds

I have never had an issue. I just fill it until the gear oil starts coming out the fill hole. I have built two rigs now without a problem.
83 shorbed pickup. 22 re swap. Dual ultimates, l52hd tranny, 5 " marlin trailflex lift. Yukon 529. Grizzly in rear zip locker front. And a bunch of other stuff....

Yep, point it to the case and you'll be fine.
