RUF driveline help needed
« on: Sep 12, 2012, 06:10:00 PM »
does anyone have rears up front, dual cases and a front driveline that behaves its self at high speed? if so can i get some details?

Iv got a first gen with 6 leaf ruf, 63" chevys in back, dual cases and a w56 transmission. my driveline is single u joint at each end and was built by high angle. it also has an 18" slip. Its all good till i hit 20mph then all hell breaks loose. it sounds like my transfer case has exploded. Its fine at speeds under 20mph and in 2wd hubs unlocked. so its not really a problem tell the snow gets here then my trucks about usless .

Iv asked about this before and have been told to try adding a cv, wich im considering but before I spend another $350 on a new driveline I was hoping someone with the same setup could let me know whats working for them.

also my t case flange is at 5* and my pinion is at 3* but  the t case flange is tilted thisway \ and my pinion is/ thisway so does that mean its 5* positive and 3* negative or am I loosing it?

Sounds like you really need a cv joint.

Give Jesse a call tomorrow and ask what he thinks.
It does sound like you need a cv, but with that said, is your drive line still phased correctly?  Ive know many people who have them off pretty bad and they vibrated like crazy.

Yep, not phased correctly. Take an angle of the driveshaft at full droop (not flexed, but droop) to make sure a clearanced cv will work

i had similar problems and now run a cv for the front and rear
made a big difference now mines sounds like it vibrates but it acutally doesnt, its because i have 2 hd  tcase mounts under my dual cases

This is a big part of the problem.

Remember, if you put a CV on you will have to reset the pinion angle which is not that easy to do on a Toyota axle unless you go to an aftermarket housing. You can have Diamond and RuffStuff build it with the angles, TG you are pretty screwed on the caster angle.

this is why i havnt rushed into a cv on the front. so pretty much your saying im screwed unless i fix the pinion angle, right? and that will cost a fortune.  I talked to jess at HA and I didnt feel he was alot of help. he mostly just said I could try a cv and it might help or it might not.
