R151F question
« on: Jun 20, 2012, 04:18:18 AM »
guys hey, greetings. im  getting a sinking feeling that this is going to end in me wanting a crawler box lol.

i have a PZJ77 landcruiser, with a duff r151f.

ive sourced another r151f, taken from a kzj90 prado landcruiser.

it occured to me though, that the input shaft might be a different length, so my question is - do they come in different lengths?

if it is the case that they do, i think i can use the input shaft from the original gearbox

I don't know the answer to your question, but man, you're one lucky man to own that PZJ77.    The vast majority of us can only dream about engines and rigs like that over here.

If I had your problem, The R151F that's in there would just get rebuilt.  Good luck!

im in Ireland. at the mo the car is a bit of a bucket, but, its a long term project, and a nice long term project at that.

it has difflocks front and rear, im thinking a crawler box and mog axles would be nice. theres a 411 mog on a website here, im thinking my own axles might be a trade... either way theyre worth a few bucks in themselves

Nice!  Factory lockers and a full floating rear axle to boot.

Mog axles could be cool.  I have read a thread on Ih8mud, which details an 80 series owner's swap to mog axles.  Turned out nice.  Good luck with your build!

yeah im pleased )  - they are very rare here too. I know of maybe three other heavy duty 70 series here in Ireland, and even less in England.
normally the 70's here are light duty with the shorter nose and smaller engines.
so this slightly battered example with all the trimmings made my day to be sure. The farmer i bought it off said it was running perfectly... yeah right... but, i didnt care, i grabbed at it. id say he ran a tractor into it a few times, all the rear panels are dented. also a car ran into it, lol, the back axle was pushed back outta position, but i sorted that. the ubolts had deformed upon impact so i replaced them.
now if i could just get the bloody thing running...
the main prob was the dual mass flywheel. it wouldnt drop down into 3rd, 2nd or 1st.  i replaced the flywheel with a solid one from an 80.
im not sure if the gearbox was stuffed, but i have a low mileage one im picking up for cheap, so i might as well slap it on while its apart.
so a few more bits and it'll fire up again. looking forward to that.
