Are you sure about what you got there?  An L45 that bolts up to a 1983 Toyota diesel motor, which I am presuming is a 1L engine here???  I know very little about these myself, but for the fact that my 1984 has a 2L motor, and a G tranny with an L series engine specific removeable bellhousing.  With that bell, both G and W series trannies will bolt up.  All of the L series trannies (except for the L43) for the R Series gas engines have an integrated, non-removeable, cast iron bell housing, and they don't bolt up to a 1L or 2L power plant, unless you've got something special.  And please correct me if I am wrong.

In the following link, check out post #4 by KX250Rider AKA Charles:

He describes two possible diesel trannies that were available for an 82 2WD.  That site there may have some good info on your quest for your 5speed. good luck!  Let us know more as you find out more, too.

BTW, according to my research, 31111-60260 is the Toyota part no. for the diesel bellhousing that goes to the R151F 5 speed transmissions (both the gas minitruck turbo version w/ gear driven t-cases and some of the R151Fs for gas (RJ7X series) and diesel (LJ7X series) powered Land Cruiser with split cases.  These bells will be rare and unusual to find IMHO.

And, 31111-22114 is the Toyota part no. for the diesel bellhousing of the 5 speed G series transmissions, which is what I have, and which would allow you to bolt up a 5 speed Marlin Crawler W56HD tranny.

Hope this helps.  I'd make sure you know exactly what you got still before going forward with any orders or stuff.

zembalayan. Thanks for the info. the truck I have they didn't sell to the US. that's where some of the confusion comes into play. The trans is  18" long Plus the 3" For the diesel bell housing Total 21"like the L50 & L52 gas 5 speeds. That don't have the removal bell housings Correct. Tag on truck says L45,so I believe thats whats in there. So I thinking perhaps a 2wd 5 speed diesel trans could be mated to the transfer case and work. any thoughts?

I have read about this three inch spacer like bell housing before, and a search on Toyotadiesel.com brought these up as well:

http://www.toyotadiesel.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2602

http://toyotadiesel.com/forums/showthread.php?p=51713

If you're not a member there, I suggest you become one.  Ask some of the old timers on that board.  I have met and chatted with nitrousoxide764, and he might be up for breaking off some knowledge. Based upon the way he describes the the diesel one piece tranny behind the 3" spacer plate in the post above, it sounds as though the one piece tranny may have an integrated bell like the U.S. based L45, L50, and L52.  Talk to those guys over there if you can.

First things things first though, tell us what kind of engine is in this non-U.S. spec 4speed diesel 4x4?

If it's a 1L, I would just buy one of the bellhousings I gave part numbers for, source the appropriate U.S. spec gasser tranny, bite the bullet and cut your floor and be done with it.  I would bet the W tranny would be a good bit stronger anyway then any of the L or G stuff that came stock with these diesel.

It is The 1L series Diesel, and 4.88 factory gears with drum brakes all around. I have just received info on how to make it work. I can take 2wd diesel trans L52 and gut it. and install the guts from a L52 4x4 trans and then mate to transfer case. that would give me a L52 5 speed 4x4 diesel trans with the clutch fork on the left and remount the 3" diesel spacer bell housing back on. no drive shaft alteration or cross member mods. thanks for your time though.

Sweet!  Take pics and post up more about the conversion when you do it.  Others down the road will much appreciate the help.
