Ok the first time i changed my W56 tranny oil it was when i took the whole tanny out to check if anything was wrong with it. When i put it in i filled it with 4 quarts oil through the shifter hole on top. Now i need to change the oil in it again and i took out the drain plug on the bottom and like 1/8 of a quart came out and i put the front axle on blocks so it practicly on the ground and i have the rear end jacked up as high as i can and no more oil will drain out.?? What do i do!?!? I even drove a few miles before i drained it . another thing is my fill plug on the side is round from some idiot who owned the truck before me. :hammerhead:  so i dont know what to do to get that off.

ok that is kinda weird that you put 4 quarts of oil through the top shifter, because there is a fill plug on the side of the tranny, and you say you only had 1/8 quart left in.  well you probably have a leak, did you notice the oil leak from the time you filled it till now?  it could be leaking from a few spots.  And to get the drain plug out that is rounded you can do a few different things, of coures vise grips, the second is to weld something on to it like another bold and use it to break it loose.  try those and if it dosent work let me know

You read it wrong, i meant only 1/8 quart CAME OUT. so there is almost 4 quarts still in the tranny and its not coming out. and the reason i filled it through the shifter was because the fill plug was rounded like i said. im going to keep trying to get that damn fill plug out but do you know why the oil isent coming out?

ok i got the fill plug out using vise-grips like you said. man that plug is screwed up. Ok now is the reason the oil isent coming out is because its in the rear part of the tranny where is shouldnt have been put in the first place right? i thought the front part and rear part shared the oil, because i figured they were connected. I think i should just put oil in till it comes out the fill plug and call it a day.

I filled my tranny though the shifter too.  Its a lot easier to get too.  All you really need to do is take the fill plug out and put the oil on through the shifter till it comes out the fill plug hole.  same thing i did for my t-cases too.  Its wierd how the oil isn't coming out.

well whatever amount i had in it before i filled it up through the fill hole this time and it wasent making this grinding noise it used to make for like the first 30 feet i drove. So im guessing the pilot bearing or somethin wasent getting oil till i drove. Its all workin great now.
