I'm just about to put a new head on my '99 3RZ. The new one is wicked looking, but it sure seems dry compared to the old one.  Should I should be lubricating any of the moving parts, or will adequate oil get in there once I trun the engine over?  What about the mounting surface on the block, what is the best way to clean that up? This is the first DOHC head i've ever done and any advice is appreciated.

oil everything you can get to.
as far as the block use a gasket scraper and get it SMOOTH and CLEAN.  blow those head bolt holes out really good

Nice.  I'm also thinking about putting a little oil on all the recycled studs and bolts I'm using from the old head (not the head bolts, those are new), just to keep them from binding up.  Good idea? Bad idea?

if it moves at all oil it :yesnod:
hopefully whoever assembled the head put plenty of pre lube on all the cam journals and the valve stems.

Whenever I take a head off a block, I always blow the headbolt holes out real good like 79coyotefrg says, then I chase the holes with a tap.  I believe they are 12Mx1.25.  :beerchug:
