4th gear popping out
« on: Feb 21, 2005, 05:00:05 PM »
Have an 85 with a w-56 and 4th will pop out when I am coasting for a while.  If I am just driving in 4th it is fine, but if I let off the gas real fast it will pop out. :rivers: The tranny has about 165,000 on it and 40,000 are on 35" and now 37" tires.

     Marlin please help.
     thanks
     Joe

Nope no body lift.  I also have a center force dual friction. if that helps.  It has about 15 - 20,000 on it.

Does it make any noises like bearing noises or grumbling noises?

In 4th no, but in all the other it makes a slight wine, but I already know that, that is the input shaft bearing,  I don't know if that would have an effect.  It might sence that is where 4th "gear" syncro is located it might have enough play in it to let the syncro "walk" out. but I don't know for sure.

time for a tranny rebuild :smack:
Yep think it is about that time.  I found an R-151 for 200, and 23-spline T-case for another 150, but don't know what kind of condition they are in.  So I will probobly have marlin rebuild them and see if he wants my old W-56 as well.  just have to wait for the money to build up for a little while hope the tranny lasts long enogh if not I'm screwed :wall:, because the truck is my daily driver and I don't have another vehichle.

Oh yah, do I have to use the 23 spline t-case to go with the r-151 or can I still use the w-56 21 spline some how not that I want to but if it comes to dallors and cents I may have to.
Thanks
Joe

snatch up the R151 for $200,   order a tranny from marlin using it and your w56 as cores
