G52 and Dual Cases
« on: Aug 06, 2002, 07:58:31 AM »
I have a 1985 Carbed Truck that I assume has the G52 Transmission and attatched transfercase. I am parting this truck out (see the for sale section) becuase I just got an 89 SAS'd V6. I want to go with dual cases, will I be able to use the 85 Tcase as a donor, and just buy the V6 Kit and a crawl box core from marlin?

I would heve to say NO. The T case from the G52 will be FORWARD  shifting.
The second case MUST be TOP shifting. A forward shifting case cannot be used.

However if you are farmiliar with the inner workings of Toyota T cases. Forward shifting Transfer cases can be converted..

What you need first is to change from a chain drive transfercase to a gear drive transfercase (click here for differences).

We have this adapter, Part #V6T-4CX (click here for its listing), which enables a gear drive t/case to go behind a V6 R150F transmission.

Now we can run gear driven t/cases. OK, problem #1 solved. Now lets get some t/cases.

Since the crawl box (first t/case) is now sitting behind the above mentioned adapter, it can not be a forward shift. It must be a top shift t/case. And also the rear t/case (if you choose to go dual) will be sitting behind our Crawler adapter plate, it too must be top shfiting.

So now we understand that we must have two donor t/cases that must both be top shifting.

In addition, let's not forget that since this is a V6 setup, we will be running all 23-spline inputs to make sure we have the strongest setup possible. So we also need to have two 23-spline inputs. We sell these inputs brand new Toyota for $165 each (click here for their listing).

So that's the story-

You need 1 adapter kit to switch from chain to gear driven t/case.
You need 2 top shifting gear driven transfercases (
click here to check my posts on this topic for some good transfercase information).
And both t/cases need to have 23-spline inputs.

Now regarding your 85' forward shift t/case, yes you can use it, you just need to convert it to a top shift style. (one more, click here for our top shifting conversion kit)  :circle:
