4x4 rims.......need link
« on: Feb 19, 2005, 10:56:15 PM »
Ok I have found the set of tires I want...But can't seem to find a set of rims..I want a set that not many people have. I have been to 4wheel parts, all pro off road. The problem is finding a 16.5 x 12 rim.

I don't want the "Typhoon" or common rims every body else is running.

38.5x14.50-16.5 (Ply Rating=6 Tread Width=12.3 O.D.=38.5)
SSTSAM-76B

http://www.4wheelparts.com/4wp/products/productLine.asp?cat=TIR&prodline=26&catName=TIRES&man=INTE

I want this style rim to show my vented disc's front and rear.

http://www.4wheelparts.com/4wp/products/productLine.asp?cat=WHE&prodline=3332&catName=WHEELS&man=WELD&parentProdline=WheCheyenneWREVO&expand=sub1

I know there spendy. I have saved up enough.

If you have a link or any suggenstions. Please post it.

Thanks Chuck

First off Id never buy a 16.5 wheel.  Second a 38.5" sx is about perfect on a 10-11" wheel a 12 works of course but especially on a 16.5 it would fall off the bead a LOT.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Why not a 16.5 wheel?   :dunno:

There is really no safety bead to hold the tire to the outer edge of the rim at low pressures.  Watch a 15 or 16" wheel get seated on the bead.  It has to "pop" over the safety bead.  A 16.5" does not have anything like that it just goes right on, and right back off at anything under 10 lbs.

Trash so your saying just stick with the 15" rim?  I don't anticipate airing down to <10 psi but you never know....

Every rim size other than 16.5 has a safety bead.  So that leaves 15, 16, 17, 18, 20, etc.etc.  The backspacing you use depends on what size of tires your going to run.  If your going to run 38's Id suggest at least 3" to help keep the tires off the springs.

16.5 was somebodies brainfart,  bigrigs run the same 'style' rim with no safety bead,    and are usually 22.5'' or 24.5''        such as 295-85-24.5

no safety bead so changing those big suckers is easier,  they stay on well with 110psi

Yea interco doesnt think anyone would want an sx or a bogger in anything else. :smack:

Check on American Racing wheels, they carry a 17" wheel that is teflon coated that is a decent deal.

They're prone to.  You need to be religious about maintaining pressure in them and making sure the bolts don't back off.

You are flying to look at a set of seats?!!! Why does that not make any sense to me?
2nd never buy Thornbirds

If you seat them properly they aren't that bad about leaking. Just make sure you get a beadlock with alot of mounting bolts.
