V8 Spring settling
« on: Feb 02, 2012, 06:52:29 PM »
So a friend of mine has a 83 Toyota with a Chevy 350. He currently has old school Rancho 3" springs and no aftermarket spring hanger. He lowered the motor and pushed it back to make the truck really stable. However he is having issues with the drive shaft hitting the tranny pan. He is looking to buy a front spring hanger and either Trail Gear HD springs or All-Pro springs (he is leaning toward All-pro) He is looking to gain about 1 1/2"-2" of additional lift from what he already has. So what size spring should he get to accomplish this? How much will they settle? Any input would be appreciated. I hope I didn't confuse anyone.

oh god you mentioned trail gear.. be ready to get a rash of :pokinit: from people that have never ran their products but know they are junk.

With that out of the way  the ranchos have a much stiffer spring rate than the tg/allpro's  so id say with a hanger 3"HD's from trail gear would be fine. all pro's you dont really have a choice you would have to get 4" springs.  I run RUF with my 350/350/dual toyota cases with a sky hanger ( has almost no lift in it) and i have no issues with the shaft hitting the pan.

So pretty much just boils down to personal preference.

The only thing is he lowered the motor and pushed it back to keep the cog down. That is where the issue lies. But I agree I think 4" All-Pro is the way to go.
