Happened on #4 with my 22RE...

The exhaust manifold was warped too....

With a 22R, you can fix it with the engine in place.

I replaced all the studs with 3/8" stainless threaded rod (cut to length) and used threaded inserts (1/2" 13 od) on the head.    Slowly step up in drill bit sizes until you get to the size for the tap you're going to use.

I had to literally do the #4 drilling by hand..... (holding the drill bit in my hand.....)  because of the brake booster.

Used red threadlock on the threaded insert to head, and blue threadlock on 3/8 rod to threaded insert

Do you have to drill for a time cert or a threaded insert?

Yes, but drilling aluminum is easy........ (so is tapping)

Aluminum is easy, I was just thinkin about the possibility of drillin crooked or too far

Wrap some tape around the bit as a depth gauge.

By slowly stepping up in drill size, you should avoid crooked.

Drill slow.

I would think with aluminum you would want a insert, so you actually have steel on steel then

I've wanted to use inserts, but I havn't read much on them so I wasnt sure. I would rather have steel on steel
