First off....
87 22r 215,000 miles....

-Found out my vac. advance was bad and replaced it, It wouldn't hold any vacuum. It was running and idling like poo.

-After replacing it it idles okay now but it stutters when there's a load.

-When I set timing to 12* w/o vac ad. plugged, like the factory manual says, and when I plug them it drops in between 5 and 8. Shouldn't it have dropped back to 0?

-Im not new to running carburated but I'm pretty new on working on them......

-Spark plugs/wires, dist cap and rotors, fuel filter are new

------------------------------------
As of now it idles okay and drives alright in 1-2-3 but it pops and hesitates(like fuels getting cut off) in high 3rd 4th and 5th.

The more of a load that's on it the worse it hesitates and cuts out.

Its got something to do with fuel/timing

I smell gas when its on fast idle warming up.....

Any ideas?

no,  it should do as it did

but you could set it at 8* and let it fall back to 3*

besides that it sounds like you have a fuel problem.   could be the fuel pump is getting weak but I would start by replacing the fuel filter even if it was replaced recently.

I was told that it could be my timing chain tensioner. When I give it gas the mark starts at 5* goes back 2-3* and then jumps way past 12*. Hearing the symptoms of a back tensioner, everything was what I was experiencing. I've got a pro coming by on Monday to take a look at it. Il let u guys know what I find out.
