Hammers, Fordyce, and Rubicon in a week?
« on: Jan 10, 2012, 11:40:45 AM »
I have a week off work to go to hammers for KOH.  i've been talking to a buddy(Jrock) and we are thinking of doing 3 trails in week.  not sure what order in yet, but just wondering how hard we would be pushing it.  i've been to hammers and rubicon several times, but never done fordyce.  not sure what to expect or how long it takes to run the whole trail.  this is a just an idea at the moment.  you think running 3 trails is too much for a week to be able to enjoy it?

from bako to hammers is about 3 hours, from hammers up 395 to 80 is about 4.5 hours and anoher hour or so up the 80 to fordyce, so 5.5 hours, then about an hour from fordyce to the rubicon trailhead at tahoe side, and 6 hours back to bako. a grand total or 14 hours on trailers, and the rest of the time is wheeling.  doesn't sount too bad for a week. and the drive up 395 is really nice.  :disturbed:

Don't forget about the time spent moving your tow rigs, if you're planning on running the trails all the way through, unless you're going to go through and then go back.

Id say go for it.  Even with it being a lot of driving, that'd be an awesome experience.

Your also talking about running two high mountain trails in the middle of winter. There ain't much snow up there now but you still got a month.

yea, i have a feeling we're going to get skunked this winter.  it's been in the 80's here in l.a. for the past 3 weeks.  i guess i'll just play it by ear.  It would be really cool to be able to run the two high mountain trails in the middle of winter though.

i'd just run JV and Fordyce, if you've already run Rubicon many times then it's nothing new. Fordyce is a great trail. Check flow's before you go though or else it'll be a wasted trip just to get to the first crossing.

If we keep Fordyce on the table for the end of the week, it may be doable if the snow lets up. Just maybe.

Running every trail at JV is a most deffinit!
