2006 Tundra Work Truck Edition.  Yep!  That means 8 foot bed that never needs to be made.  Has 4.7L 271HP, 2-Wheel Drive, Auto, new brakes and BFG All Terrains, Took the utility shell off it, had rack and all the goodies, but don't like shells.  Added Power Door Locks, Power Windows, and an Alarm.  Put my Toolbox on it from my 95 Dodge Ram I use To Have.  This was my pops truck he bought brand new, and he really takes care of his cars.  Does not leak anything, infact it drives like brand new, smogged like it too.  Those numbers we amazing, even though we found out that if you sell or give immediate family a car, no smog is needed. :driving:

What plans do you have for it?

I know its gonna cost a lot to make it a crawler, so I may just throw some lockers in the rear and build some nice bumpers for it.  I rode in one where that is all he did and went pretty much everywhere the 4x4's did.  If I get one of the jobs I applied for, then I'll have money to play with and build a nice crawler.  It depends on finances.

HULK

So I am needing some ideas on front and rear bumpers for my Tundra.  Gonna order some round tubing, and my buddy 86rustbucket is gonna help me build them.  Definitely wanting a winch mount in the front, because I know later I will need it.  Want something tough looking. :muscles:

Don't know how to switch it without losing posts, I think I started my first post here that's why. :dunno:

So, last week I had a nice tapping sound coming from my passenger side, back by the firewall, coming from the top of the motor.  Three mechanics, including a toyota mechanic, said it sounds like it is a lifter sound.  Which it sounded like it to me.  It wasn't the toyota ticking we are all use to, which the VVTI has it too.  I was told the lifters on the 4.7L has the old shim style and is not the hydraulic, self adjusting, style.  I would think they would have done so, being as new as it is.  Anyways, the toyota mechanic suggested having the system decarbonized, by doing this "fuel induction system".  It consists of running a chemical through the throttle body, cleaning the fuel injectors, and so on.  The noise did not seem to be coming from the injectors though.  He said if there is carbon build-up on the piston, it has less room for the cylinder to fire and could cause this tapping sound I was hearing, like a diesel. Makes sense, the cylinder would run hotter, etc.  So I had it done, and $184.00 later and a few hours later, the tapping is gone.  So far it has been 2 days, and nothing.  Keeping my fingers crossed.  The toyota mechanic said that they almost never need to tear into these motors, and claimed they are as dependable as the 22re, but in a V8.  It would only tap once it was warmed up, not cold.  Just wanted to let everyone know incase they run in to a similar problem, that this may have worked.  I will keep you posted. :eye:

Well, that service worked great.  The truck sounds normal and runs great.  Just wanted to let everyone know incase something like this happens to you.

HULK

So I finally got the time to put the General Lee horn into my Tundra today.  Man do I miss that beautiful sound. :driving:

HULK

I am keeping the truck 2 wheel drive, but want to throw in some lockers.  I hear a lot of problems with air lockers, so probably not join that route.  It worked great for a buddy of mine when he went to the snow in his 2wd tundra.  Plans are to keep this and get me a '70 chevelle muscle car. :driving:

jimbo74

are you going for seledctable or automatic?

70 chevelle :)

i just run seafoam through my brake booster and gas tank --- i think it is similar to what they did -- we did a service like it when i worked at wheel works

Going for automatic so the wife can drive it also. The service they did on my tundra  made a huge difference.  I heard these tundras last forever, especially the 4.7L ones, which is great to hear since I have one.  Then again, it is a yoga, so it doesn't really surprise me, but I see some with over 300,000 miles still running strong.  I saw one with 600,000 miles, I was amazed until I saw it with my own eyes.

HULK

So plans now are to save up to build some bumpers for it.  Looking to do pre-runner style bumpers but I am going to try to do something different with them. :muscles:

So for all out there with either a 2005-2007 Sequoia or 2005-2006 Tundra, got some info.  Apparently I encountered this, and fixed it, but just an informative message...People have been hearing a clunk, thunk, or pop sound from the vehicle when stopping, accelerating from a stop, or turning at low speeds.  It is caused by the joint between the rear tranny mount and the frame crossmember. I could only find this picture, so pay no attention to the other markings.  The mount sounds like it is broken, but may not be.  Mine made the noise and I went under the truck, put my fingers on the bolt joining the top and bottom section of the mount, and pushed up a couple times on the tranny and could feel the vibration and hear the sound on the bolt.  Tightened the bolts, checked the crossmember bolts, and rechecked, noise and vibration was gone.  Drove it, no more noise.  Hope this info is hand to someone if ever needed.

Changed my water pump, Timing Belt, and Thermostat being that it just hit 110,000 miles.  The water pump had maybe 30,000 miles on it but had a small leak as you can see in the picture there, so I just put a new one on.

TOYOTA...Turn Over Your Odometer Then Adjust. A guy I ran into told me this one.  I liked it, so I thought I'd share it. :driving:

Thinking of putting my bumper from an 85 C20 on the back of my Tundra. It's a nice solid bumper...Think it'll look nice.

Gonna keep this as a work truck for now.  Family got bigger.  Plans for bumpers though.  Getting ideas for some.

HULK

So........Sold my Tundra, gonna buy a 4 door Tundra or get another runner for camping.  My boy's safety comes first.  High book was worth $7,800, got $9,000 today for it.  Nice guy bought it, got a great truck.  Got an 88 Silverado with a crate 350 in it for work right now.  If I get an older runner for camping, I'll keep the Silverado for work. :driving:

jimbo74

congrats..... family got bigger?! what?!

Yeah bro.  I am finally a daddy for the first time to an amazing little boy.  He is incredible, smart, and always has a smile on his face.  I never knew being a pop would be such a great feeling.  I am join to teach him everything I know and raise him right, build him a nice truck one day too. :driving:

HULK

So..........hopefully i'm done buying trucks.  Bought a 2000 Tundra 4X4, Extra-Cab to fit my sons car seat too.  Gonna use it for work, but also when we go camping.  New Plugs, All terrain tires, Battery.  Took it to my uncles smog shop and he checked it inside out, showed me the smog, and numbers were great.  Also checked to see if codes were previously cleared, but nothing, which is great.  The guy I bought it from seems like a great guy, also a Marine, so thank you for his service.  Here's a few pics.  Needs Paint. :driving:

jimbo74

looks good. what happened to the chevy?

That was an in between truck.  I bought that from my pops after I sold my white Tundra to keep until tax returns, but someone offered to buy it from me at the right price, so I got what I needed.  Room for my boy, and 4-wheel drive for the snow in feb.  I just did the back brakes today, they were low, gotta replace the cracked windshield, and paint her.  Maybe get rid of those stupid chrome rims, get some nice black steelies.

HULK

Well.....Changed Spark Plugs, New windshield, New water pump, Thermostat, Timing Belt, Serpentine belt, Radiator flushed with new hoses, Serviced Transmission, Got her all dolled up for the snow, and none by bass lake.  What a bummer. :driving:

HULK

Trucks getting painted.  Should be done today.  Then getting some nice black wheels for it. :beerchug:
