WIDE rear axle
« on: Aug 14, 2002, 03:23:35 PM »
I was wondering if you could take a rear axle and slap on a FROR full float kit and then use 2 front long side axle shafts(mabe some crome alloy All Pros 8)) and widen the housing to accomodate?
Also how wide would this be?

Since it could be under both, I'll let your duplicate topics slide this time.

The housing would definately need to be widened a bit, but I dont think anyone has ever done this.

I would say that you are better off making some sort of adapter like http://Front Range Off Road to slap on front outters on the rear axles..

Cya!

Well, one Problem, is the splines on the end of the inner axles is 28.  solid hubs are 30, and IFS are 26, so hubs would certainly be a problem.  Youre also dealing with a relatively small shaft, so breakage would be fairly likely.  Why not use a taco rear end, FF it, but use IFS wheel hubs, and weld on the caliper brackets different (we could probably do this for you).  Then youd have about a 63" wide rear.  Wide enough?
