Mod advice!!!

Ok ladies and gents, I got a couple of questions for mods that I should do and some advice from you guys is needed and appreciated.  I got a 1984 Yota 4-Runner with a 4 inch suspension lift on it and I am gonna be putting 35's on it so I have got a question about gears:   4:88 or 5:29's?  My motor is a 22r that I am getting ready to put a holley 350 cfm carb on and I was wondering what kind of header I should run.  Anything I forgot just fill me in on what I should do.

No question, go 5.29's.
With 35's it puts your ratios back to near stock and your speedo will be correct too.  Not to mention you might actually have a little power to the wheels.

If'n you came with 4.10's original, 5.29's and 35-36 inch tires will put you back right around stock...my speedo is only off 1 mile an hour give or take...

Ok I guess 5.29's is the best choice for gears now what about header and other good mods.

personally I think headers and other mods are a waste of money, your not going to get MUCH more juice from that engine - just keep it happy and tuned and put your money elsewhere..

so why the holly 350 carb?Does the stock one work?Why change it..The stock one will work better then a holley anyday of the week..

I had a doug thorley header and a weber carb. It did help but it also made smog a major PIA (it was legal but didn't like to pass)

Yeah, see I don't have to pass smog out here.  In fact I just took off my smog pump today as a matter of a fact.

Just order up a carb rebuild kit, it is pretty easy and will bring that engine back to life...

  I hear that, first one i did...spent two hours trying to figure out how the throttle connector assembly went back together...and that wasn't even the biggest issue...I do remember having a decent set of directions though, good picture.  I think it came with the rebuild kit.

There is a friend of mine in my club that is a mechanic and rebuilds yota carbs all the time, it takes him an hour or so depending on how dirty it is. He does a good job and I think he does it for 45 bucks. I you sent a kit and your carb to him. Us postal service flat rate box is $7.70 so shipping is not that bad, way cheaper than a reman or weber. If anybody needs a carb rebuilt send me a message.

runnerinthetrails where are you??    theres no  stupid questions  i run a weber and 20/22 hybrid with lcengineering cam and valves and could probably make mike's 3rz cry ,   well maybe  these little motors have bullet proof bottom ends and can take lots of abuse,   we all your questions

It seems as if we are geting more and more of the    on this board     There are a couple of other topics that new posters have been called stupid, or any other variety of names.  How old are we?    Personally, I didnt care for pirate when I started driving, that is why I came over here when I got my toyota.  I have really enjoyed being able to get all my stupid questions out, more to come, without getting ragged for my inexperience.  I just hope it stays that way for all the other new folks

I don't have any money right now I am trying to get another job.  When I get the money I will let you know about sending your buddy my carb and a kit and see if he can rebuild it.

good luck dude, hope you can get it all taken care of.  THat is one thing I never wanna deal with again.  I hate carbs.  I can do them, have done them, but I never had good luck with them
