Can someone get me a picture of their distributor mounted to the block?  I would like to see how much it is rotated in the mounting slot.  I'm beginning to think there is issues with mine.  Its fully rotated counter clockwise  :dunno:

give me a few minutes to find the pic, but the vacuum advance should be near the top closest to you if looking at the motor from the front of the truck

In the top pic, the front hose goes to the dizzy and the back hose is blocked off with a bolt (thats how I bought the truck).

In the bottom pic, that is the dizzy timing adjuster slot.

Yeh, it doesnt matter as long as runs good, but on all ive done, that bolt sits in the middle pretty much. Where you got it sitting should have the timing retarded

you probably have a stretching timing chain, but you can adjust the timing you'll just need to remove that bolt, remove the distributor cap and re-stab the distributor.

Yeah, but I want to rereg mine at my place legal like and not at someone elses place out of smog zone.  They are cracking down on that.

ya i get a tax right off for having a clean vehicle and mines registered at my house, deq is just the same

Don't know if you've checked this or not...but my Mechanical advance was sticking real bad on my distributor recently and I took apart the distributor to clean and lube the shaft and weights. It was pretty gummed up and hard to turn by hand even. My idle was inconsistent and it was strange how sometimes the truck would run better at times than others and more notably when I was pulling a hill. It never seemed to run rough as you say with yours but it didn't seem to be running quite right. Now with the weights free and easily moveable by hand it runs real smooth now and my timing is where it should be now that the weights aren't stuck in an advanced position and it idles great too!  :twocents: :beerchug:

Muddytazz

I'm thinking I might just throw a timing set on there for the hell of it and clean other things up.  The motor has 187K on the ticker and I have no knowledge of what the previous owner has done or not done.

In this picture here the Manifold vacuum connection is connected here.  I do not have that connected, mine is located where that brass plug is but just has a hose looped to the other side.

If you look in the upperish left corner of the pic where that small plug is, can I remove that plug and move that diaphram deal over there and just remove that bigger fitting and just plug it?
