Spewing oil from hole in the block
« on: Oct 03, 2011, 07:57:39 AM »
Make a long story short…
I bought a 1982 22r long block from an engine builder and behind the passenger side engine mount bracket there is a threaded hole in the block where something (a plug) is missing and oil is coming out of the hole. Unfortunately I don’t have any idea or pictures of what goes into that hole.

I didn’t run the engine like this. Just cranked it over a twice till it fired up ran it for about 2 seconds and got out to check everything and noticed the pool of oil.

Can someone help me out with a pic or discription?

That would be the spot for your oil pressure sensor

It should be a small round thing, about quarter size, about inch thick, with a prong sticking off it, or if sr5, will have a niche that it clips on with, possible its not there, is not, pm me your year truck and if its got a oil light or gauge, and i can prob egt ya one

Actually it is In between the 4 mounting bolts that hold the engine mount bracket to the engine bock. Directly behind the engine mount bracket

The one closest to the mounting bracket is suppose to have a plug in it.  The one farther back is for your oil pressure sensor.   They are both along the same galley line, I do not know why the front hole is in there, manufacture, or perhaps turbo options in other models.  Sorry I also do not know the thread pitch to plug it up.

Here is a crappy picture of my block on the way to get tanked. you can see the plug right in the center of the four mounting bracket bolts that are on the right of this picture.  You can see that the hole to the left (Under the oil filter) is open, that is where the pressure sensor goes.

hope that helps.  :twocents:

Yes Wermz this is the one. Thanks
I can’t tell in the picture, but is it just a one piece metal plug? Or is it like a two piece pressure valve, Bolt head , set screw. Wish I had the correct one now I am afraid I will plug up some internal oil channel maybe I will go to the scrap yard and pull an exact one?

it is just a one piece threaded plug with a standard bolt head top, or four sided top for a bolt head top, i forget exactly.

Could probably also measure the threads on the pressure sensor.  I believe they are the same.
