Topic: 22r stripped cam cap bolts WTF

I have a 84 22r that im doing the headgasket on, got some good head for cheap..... done by the local machine shop  anyways, fresh everything went to torque the cam cap bolts, had about 7 pounds of pressure on it and bam. stripped ! it calls for 10 to 13 pounds of torque, and im using a snap on Tech wrench (expensive ass torque wrench costed more than my yota) has anyone else experienced this problem ? I know my only option now is gonna be to tap and throw a helicoil in it, but before i do that i wanted to see what you guys on here were doing if you have experienced this issue ? my dads go the old ".... it drill the sum pregnant dog out and throw a time sert or helicoil in there!" mentality, but before i do that i just wanted to see any tricks someone on here is using, THANKS!

time sert is your best bet, or a new head. your choice

are those 10 to 12 lbs inch pounds or foot pounds

time serts are bad ass

Thanks for all the replys everyone, ended up drilling tapping and throwing helicoils in all of them, worked like a dream ! trucks comming along nicley i will have a build thread up soon, thanks!

I had that problem on my recent rebuild. The top half of the threads stripped out. I just threw a slightly longer bolt in there and it torqued down just fine. But thats cuz Im a cheap

haha hey you do what you.gotta do.right ? the only reason i fiddnt just throw a longer bolt in is because i have access to a full machine shop for free so i got lucky !

My vote would be Heli-coil.  are they similar?
