I am lucky to get 200miles a tank with only 31s and 4:56 gearss sucks

Are you certain that you have the 4.56 gear set, or is that what you were told by the PO?

Have you tried clocking your speedo and odometer w/a gps, to see if the stock units are working correctly?

If you are certain that the gears are correct and the odometer is working correctly, it is either the gas you are using(watered down or low octane), your driving style(jack rabbit take offs, heavy foot), or possibly a leak in the fuel system.  You simply shouldn't be getting that low of mpg's w/31's and 4.56 gears.  If you drop down to 4.10's you will be under geared by 10%(loss in power/performance) and moving up to 4.88's would make you 7% over geared(likely increase mileage around town, but may hurt freeway mileage).

Yeah they are 4:56 gears i traded my stock 4:10 gears for this guys 4:56 he had in a v6 and i paid him to install them. I use 93 octane gas cause i get better gas milege with it then using 87 octane and i even use ethenol treatment in it. I dont have a lead foot either cant figure out the dam problem sucks ready to drop a 3.4 v6 toyota motor in it lol jk i wish, i wouldnt be suprised if i got better mpg with it even with the more power and the v6.

Might try a pressure test of the fuel system, could be leaking fuel from the return lines.

Might also verify the gears, not all V6's came with the 4.56 gear set, only those that also came with the 31" tire packag, and later auto. trans. Runners and stock tires(to improve performance).

Could also have leaking injectors, or running too rich.  When O2 sensors fail they will cause the engine to run rich, i.e. safety mode.

Might check timing as well?  PO could have advanced it.

Did you add the header, or did the PO?  If PO, he could have adjusted the Mass Air Sensor(richen) in an attempt to increase performance.  Does the seal around the MAS look factory?

Might also just be a tired engine... I've had (2) 22R's (no, neither EFI), but the huge difference in MPG between them is making me realize I shouldn't forget the engine in all this. Here are the specs: A) rebuilt 22R, on 31"x10x15, 3" lift, stock gearing, original Aisin carb = 17mpg on the highway, same engine with a Weber 38 + Oppenhauser manifold + 2.25 headers & pipes = 14.5 mpg. BUT, B) another rebuilt 22R with, 33x12.5x15 (i.e. much more rubber on the ground), 3" lift, and the stock Aisin gets 22mpg! If you threw away the Weber and compared the two AISIN setups you could try to argue that A might just have a cleaner/better tuned Aisin than B, except that in practice the Aisin on B runs TERRIBLE for the first 1/2 hour of a sub 40F drive.

I have LC engineering Header, MagnaFlow High Flow Cat, 2.25 piping, Single chamber muffler, Downey Cold Air Intake, running stock gear ratio , with 235/75r/15 Im getting close to 25mpg.  Oh yeah its a 1994 22re, single cab 2wd.  Next mod is gonna be electric cooling fan.

Id say start with Cold air intake and and exhaust system.

I run 32'' bfgs on my 93 with 4.10s, mostly stock and a full exhaust- 17mpg in town (heavy right foot) and 20-21 mpgs freeway when I keep the rpms lower... I would recommend putting some taller tires on and the wide footprint will make a difference in mileage. I average 260+ miles on a tank of fuel freeway/city combined

assuming you have the 17 gallon tank thats only like 11 1/2 miles per gallon :yikes: you have major issues somewhere.
start with the basics.  spark plugs, sp wires, cap, timing (this can seriously affect mileage) also, has the MAF been adjusted??
