85 yota steering options
« on: Sep 02, 2011, 06:07:36 PM »
My 85 longbed is starting to develop a bit of steering wobble.  Since it recently turned over 200k I'm planning on just going ahead an rebuilding the whole front end (calipers, disks, bearings) as well as the steering.  The truck is a semi daily driver/surf wagon/expedition cruiser, so no rock crawling for this one.  That said I would like to upgrade the steering components as much as possible without compromising the ability to return to stock (i.e. no hi-steer, welding, etc).  What are my options for things like tie rods, ends, etc.

Surely someone has beefed up their stock setup.

Rebuild your front axle with an MC kit and replace your steering stabilizer. Have an alignment done and you'll be set for another 200K ;)

As for beef, upgrade your tierod but that's for us rock crawlers  :king:

Marlink
RIP KYOTA

You can go through life being scared of the possible, or you can have a little fun and tease the inevitable.

Give a man venison, he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to hunt Blacktail, he'll be frustrated for life!

The axle stuff is taken care of.  As far as the tie rod, I already looked at the marlink, but as I said above, I don't want anything that requires welding and the marlink does.  Does anyone make a beefed up rod that works with stock ends?

The Marlink is a bolt in. You may need to make or buy a steering stabilizer bracket :dunno:

The marlink itself is bolt in but it requires welding for the stabilizer.  I'm looking for something that is 100% bolt on.

If you can build a mount that bolts on the tierod and the stabilizer, you'll be set  Maybe Marlin would sell you the stabilizer tierod mount with the Marlink :dunno:

Really, other than that, your all done. There's not much else you can do. Maybe ARP knuckle studs, but they wont aid in your steering.
