heres the deal. truck sat for 2 weeks. came back, tried starting it, nothing. put some fuel in the carb, started right up. ok, so its not getting fuel. i just replaced the fuel filter a couple months ago. i put a new fuel pump in today, and it started right up and idled perfectly. i let it warm up, and went to hit the gas. as soon as i did, the thing went full throttle open. throttle isnt sticking either i dont think. pressing the throttle down didnt bring it out of it. then after the truck sat for a bit, that whole thing went away. but now, its making this super loud noise.

the truck was idling, then it sputtered, and started doing this.

i dont think its the timing chain, because other people say that theres goes away with higher rpms. mine just gets faster. Free truck anybody :maddest: :maddest: :maddest:

That sounds like it's time to start looking for a new motor.  :smack:

definitely dont have the cash to drop into that. i think it might be related to the fuel pump and the cam somehow. this sucks too because i have to have it running by monday

Rod knock is usually a deep low tone.  A loose T-chain does have a rattle but usually goes away as engine speed increases.  That sounds more like a rattle, clank, like something hitting the valve cover, the fan hitting something, or something rattling on teh exhaust.

something up with the fuel pump install? sounds almost like the fuel pump is bouncing off the fuel pump cam?

run it with the valve cover off if you dont mind the mess?
hook up a timing light and shine it on the cam sprocket? down into the timing cover? try it with all four wires and see if you see anything odd?

damn. i dont know though, when i put the new fuel pump in there, i had to push that little arm in a little bit for it to go in there. heres a pic

pretty sure the marks on there are from the new fuel pump

oil pressure is fine, no light

maybe a new lobe for the fuel pump lever to ride on or if the oil pressure is fine it could be a piston inset is bad and wouldn't affect oil pressure  kinda like piston slap

yotaneck13

that dont sound like a rod knock to me bro.  Ger a long funnel and put small end to oilpan from under neath and bie end to your ear.  While its running if its a rod youll hear it awsome from underneath but if you can hear it better from the top its safe to assume you dont have a rod knock.  I spun quite a few rods in the 22r and re and usually its number 3 that goes first.  but when it first starts its just like a t chain and comes and goes at diff rpm's.  Id say you pump is slapping the cam wheel it rides on.

I was wondering if the arm on the pump wasnt mis shaped smacking something else inside like the valve cover or something

no, it has notthing to do with the fuel pump we found out yesterday. my buddy came over with his stethoscope and he found out its in the back of the engine, probably in the block. now i have to decide what im going to do. either buy an engine from Dave'z, or buy a used to get me by while i rebuild my old engine. problem is, i dont have the time to rebuild an engine right now.

Thrust washer? Main bearing? Right at start is when it sounds like a rod to me. You can always tell if a sound is coming from the top or bottom of a engine, without a stethoscope. Top end sounds happen twice per revolution, whereas bottom end sounds only happen once.

Sorry to hear. Ive got a nice purty polished crank right here, and a bored once over block, all ready for rebuild, if interested and tunrs out you need em.

If the engine is busted, its not very hard, expensive, or time consuming really to rebuild them. Its fairly simple, and will make your truck that much closer to you, and worry free.

edt; i shouldnt say you can ALWAYS tell where the sound is coming from, but pert near narrow it down to top or bottom end.

If I were you I would get a used engine to get you through for now, and then when you get some time and money buy a davez 22re and swap it  :twocents:.

This might not be the issue because i cant see your photobucket pictures for some reason but.. My buddy wanted mt to rebuild his motor because it has a knock and it sounded like that so i figured rod knock even though it doesnt really sound liek a rod knock.. pull the motor all the rods are good so i flip it over (and pull the valve cover which i should have dont first :smack:) and i found one of the valve adjustment screws had backed out and was hitting the valve cover..

it could have easily been over looked when you pulled the valve cover maybe try that??
