welder?

ok so i new to the whole crawler scene i wanna learn how to fab stuff myself i wanna buy a welder and learn by myself what welder would be good to learn and progress on im looking to spend about 300. any advice will be useful thank you.

I would definately buy something that is 220. You are not going to be able to buy a new welder that will be good for fabricating suspension parts etc for that kind of money. I would buy a milermatic 170, they are bad ass machines. Take a look at craigslist, you may find a crack head deal.

okay thank you. i will look on there could i build a roll cage,bumpers or anything with that?

Id learn to make welds first before you try to weld anything critical.

Yes, you could definately build bumpers with that and I completely agree, practice before you weld any critical parts. Welding is a skill that you have to use, another words you need to practice. There are books, videos etc. Good luck.

Make t joint welds, weld one side and break it. See how hard it is to do that, look at how it breaks etc.

I can do all that with a 110 welder. So a 220 for sure.
