I currently have a R151F Toyota turbo transmission mated to a Marlin 4.7 transfer case w/Total spline which is 23 spline and a forward shifting unit. So I took the old, stock 23 spline Input and put It In a top shift transfer case that had a broken Input. So I have a top shifting transfer case with a 23 spline Input to do dual cases. My question Is In order to do dual cases I think I will have to use the  stock case w/ 2.28 In the rear case. In theory It seems like you would want the crawler case In the rear but since It will be 23 spline does It matter? I am wondering what you guys are running and how you are setup? I have no expierience with a dual cases and I would like people with some expierence (Marlin, Chris)  to give me thier opinion.  So what do you think? Also In the future I would like to have Twin stick where should the Twin stick go?Thanks In advance. Worley

you can swap the shift rails to the other case, it's best to have the 4.7s in the back anyhow :twocents:

It deosn't matter as much if the rear case is 23 spline and the forward case has 4.7s. I had a simular problem as I had a forward shift 4.7 case from marlin and I wanted to dual cases. I went ahead and swaped the shift rails between the forward shift and top shift and converted my 4.7 case for twin stick when I swaped the shift rails. It's not that bad at all. but I don't think it realy matters in your case since you are running 23 spline all the way through.

You will still break the stock input in the rear even though its 23 spline.  Id swap the gears around and go with it.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Hey guys thanks for the replies. WT do you think swapping the shift rails would be easier like mike said? Instead of having to swap the gears

Either way your basically going to have the same amount of work.  To change the shift rails you'll have to crack the case apart.  To change gears you have to do the same thing.  Id pull the cases apart and put the forward shift rails in the stock lowrange box and put it in front.  The box with 4.7's in it has been clearanced to fit the lower gear already so Id keep it as a unit.  Overall its pretty easy to do the work it just takes a bit of time.

It's easier to swap shift rails than gears. All you have to do is cleareance the shift rails not the case, also you don't need a press or any other major tools to swap shift rails take a look at the install instructions for 4.7 gears and a top shift conversion for the diference. I know you can run a dual ultimate over kill with 4.7 gears in both cases but I don't know how reliable they are.
