While I love my little 3RZ, the Red Blooded American in me is having a very hard time pushing aside the temptation of a V8.

22RE 110 hp
3RZ 150 hp
1UZ 300hp (98-00)

A 50% increase from the original 22RE was nice and all, but it was kinda like getting to 2nd base. You leave the evening still blue. You tell all your friends about it but still haven't experienced her true potential. A nearly 300% increase is just pure sex.

However...    I don't want to totally screw up my gas mileage. Not that I think it could get much worse. So does anyone here that has a friend or has done the 1UZ swap themselves have any idea what kind of fuel consumption you're getting? Also, what's your gearing and tires size?

Currently I can get up to but will not exceed 17mpg. That's road trip gas milage. Typical around town and some freeways is about 15.5 mpg. 37"s and 5.29's  Am I dreaming, is 22-25 out of the question.

with a tunable stand alone kit on it (such as an SDS) you could definitely get that mileage out of it, then adjust it for wheeling!

From what the few people that I was communicating with while I did mine told me the 1uz should get about 18-20 in a daily driven truck with 35" tires.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

From what ive been led to believe, the guys over in AUS. that are using the 1UZ feel they are getting 18-24 mpg(converted from KM/L) with 4x4/larger tires.
One of the appealing things about this conversion is that everything can stay stock, it purrs like a kitten, and gets great mileage with the power/weight ratios.
A Stand alone ECU is not needed unless your going for modded HP, and it adds to the bottom line $$.  Stock ECU will run the engine as it did, and the 22RE/1UZ wire looms can be spliced together to work perfectly.   www.lextreme.com has all the info., most have been there and done it.

Does Lexetreme have or make a new speed "O" gear for tire size changes or rather gear size changes?

i think www.inchworm.com is the speedo gear goto, urd has the speedometer calibration pod, but that plugs into OBDII specifically- i think?.  lextreme forum has all to do with the 1uz -conversions/mods/wiring/tech, and really nothing to do with offroad application

I would love to do one of these conversions, actually I had an sc400 I was going to use as a doner car for the conversion but believe it or not it was stolen and never recovered and since it was a parts car to me I didn't have insurance.

If you install it in an 89-95 truck or 4runner the electronic speedo gear from a 92-95 4cyl truck works fine.  If you use an 84-88 you can actually integrate an SC400 gauge cluster into the housing of the dash, then use the same 92-95 gear on the t-case.

What if you got one of these...

Not sure but I'm guessing that since Toyota switched to electronic speedo in 1992 that the Taco's should also be electronic and the same 1992-1995 4cyl (gear t-case) sensor should work.
