Pre 85 or After 85

    I was curious if the 86' and newer IFS trucks had any thing that would benifit you more than a pre 85', other than fuel injection.  For ex. are the frames stronger are the axles wider or stronger in the rear ar the tranies and t-cases different.  I am thinking of getting a IFS truck and doing a SAS,  because somebody told me that they are built stronger???     I thoght I'd ask you guy's... You seem to know what your talking about, this guy didnt

Newer truck with 6cylinders have a wider rear axle. and the cab is a bit bigger, and you have the option of extended cab and they are huge comparitively.  The SR5 have the built in tach and there is alittle more room for adding switches and things on the dash.  But the early 80's trucks, I believe are just a tad skinnier in the body and can wiggle there way throught tighter spots better.

All 86 and newer trucks have a 3 inch wider rear axle.  V6 trucks have a stronger third member then the rest.  Fuel injection came in 85, but not all trucks had it after then.  I don't think the frames are stronger.  Front axles from an 84 and 85 have a bigger gusset then pre 84.  80-83 had a small gusset and pre 80 had no gusset.  The trucks are just about the same width all the way up to 89.  Then the body style changed.

solid axle frames are arched up front for draglink clearance. ifs frames arent

Ifs 4x frames dont have as much of an arch over the front axle but the later 2x frames have more arch than even a solid axle truck.

86 and newer, you get more obsions and a roomier cap
