Are you dead set on running a Toyota diesel? Why not go for the Mercedes OM617 and 4x4 Labs adapters.

they made the divorce toy case adapter but quit, same guys?

I'm slowly looking at all swaps, busy so I don't get to read as much as I want.
still need to get my rig ready for MCR + gota make a dozen panels for the raffle, + backed up on orders..........

I'm not sure if they ever did divorse toyota case adapters. I don't seem to recall that but maybe they did. From my understanding they made a big batch of these adapters for the GMs and Toyotas and you should be able to call and order one right away. The Labs produces top quality products though, I plan to do the OM617/4x4 Labs swap in the future. Luke has sped things up over the years so that shouldn't be a problem. Either way, look forward to seeing what kind of diesel goodness you decide on.

Hey bro good luck on the swap. I'm looking into doing the same swap I'm just not sure if I like the vw diesel more. What made you go with the om617. Instead of vw or toyota. I've read the tread and at first you where going with toyota. Sorry for the dumb questions just and to get as much information on diesel swaps as possible. When you get everything for the swap are you going to do a build thread on the swap. And thanks again.

seabass

easy to get everything
only toy diesels I find now are all electrontc
efi 1kz-te
can't find a 2lt manual IP
added bonus is the toy diesels run $3,000 for a 2l-te & $4,000-6,000 1kz-te
300 td's whole cars $900-3,000
adapter around $625 with flywheel
+ more power
stock mb is around
300CD
MY 1981–1985 OM617.952 125 hp (93 kW) @ 4350 181 lb·ft (245 N·m) @ 2400

turn boost up to 20lbs & IP up for 145-175hp?
read no trouble till you hit 35psi

can make 250-300hp, but reading $1200 for IP work, bigger turbo, better exhaust & doesn't seem to be any off the shelf parts for getting out more power, do it yourself stuff

Why do you not want a efi diesel I know the difference between the two but are the ip easier to work on or to get more power out of. And what year of the engine is best for the swap. Thanks for the information you just posted. Sorry for the dumb questions. Hey bro did u not like the vw or is it that the om617 just the better diesel.

seabass

simple, manual IP
1 wire
fuel shut off:)

yes I know I am a flat rate diesel/propane/gasoline mechanic..... more fuel is not hard to achieve. hardest part would be fabbing up the manifold.

Hey bro I've been doing some research on the cummins diesels have you thought of the b3.3 Ive read a couple of treads on ih8mud and seen a couple of guys swapping them into land cruisers. You can get them brand new or used. There not cheap but there good engines. There's adapters so you can use a few trans even Toyota trans.

seabass

I have looked into them
bit heavier
bit more $$, well maybe alot more
didn't see toy adapter, saw sae to GM
looked overall more trouble & $$
great motor though

Sorry forgot that you said something about the b3.3 in your first post. How do you add links to post. So maybe I can post the links for you if you like. And the link to the adapters your need. Ones from phoenix castings and the other is from advance adapters. Sorry if u already know this.just trying to help. Since you've given me some good advice about diesel swaps.

85muder

I've read that after the sae to gm you use the advance adapter gm to toyota. You have to use the two. Are they expensive used? There about 200lbs less then the 4bt. And sorry if u already knew all this just trying to help. Like u help me out bro.

seabass

just copy & paste link
if you can't get that to work, email them to me & I'll post

[email protected]

post anything you want, want this to be a diesel info thread more then anything
might help people out.
I am reading a ton & the info is wide scattered over last 10 years
no 1 thread anywhere has had all the answers yet, maybe this one will someday:)

Sorry for the late reply.

The OM617 is a 3.0 L inline 5 cylinder found in the 300D/300SD. Has approximately 90 hp and around 180 ft lb, but those numbers seen to vary depending on the year you get it out of. That is a great site you found thanks for that link. The OM617 is definitely a killer swap and provides lots of tuning options. Luke has swapped them into several Landcruisers now and has been loving every one of them.

And yeah, 4x4 Labs is in Grass Valley about an hour up I80 from Sac. Lot of good info developing in this thread.
