That engine cooling fan makes me think it's a Porche engine. Very cool.

or it could be just to keep cool air flowing at the moter while crawling

The Porche motor I'm thinking of was air cooled. The Porche fan faced the rear like the one in the pic, VW fans were offset and faced forward.

i am not too impressed.....quality yes...capable yes...cool...sorta....that to me is not four wheeling or what not...thats a dune buggy or almost an ATV i mean come on...do any of the rigs some of these comp guys build even remotely resemble trucks anymore? not really...am i jealous hell yeah!! but for the most part offroading and fourwheeling to me was cool because you are taking a truck somewhere that is unbeleiveable (sp) i mean anyone can take there dune buggy or their quad through this stuff....its impressive when someones pickup or four runner or jeep or scout or bronco does it
agree or disagree thats my humble opinion

Looks like porsh,,If you see where the exhaust comes out a normal vw comes stright out there from the head,,That one looks like it comes out the bottom of the head to the flange.Alos by the looks of the bottom of the case and the vies next to the crank pully also does not look vw..The fan is for sure porsh..Hitlers revenge  ,,Thats why my sandrail is toyota powered..
Forgiveness is between them and god..
Its my job to arrange the meeting!

I'm not expert but my .02 says its a VW motor with a Porche fan. I've seen this kind of setup before on sandrails. The porche fan, due to its larger size, provides a whole lot more cooling than the stock VW. No big thing.

I saw that thing at the Supercrawal in farmington a few weeks ago.  Im pretty sure it is a porsche motor. Thats what i was told. I have a few pics of it, and like 200 digital pics of the rockcrawl. There on a website. I'll have to get the adress and post it.
As for the whole being a bggy or atv thing......most vehicles there were rock buggy's that you couldn't even tell what they were except for a displayed emblem.  I think that it is kind of dumb, and it is cooler to see something you recognize, crawl up something without something like rear weel steering and hydraulics.
Lowriders are for guys who can't get it up!!!

this is  strange. The  bus/ bug motors are the same (Type 1) critter and the one in these pictures  is different.  They should have an exhust port both front and rear and the one in the picture looks like they both come from the rear. If it does have them in the front and the rear, and we just can tell by the photos, then there is still something wrong. The exhust port to the rear of the vehicle should be visible and is not so some big mods have been done.  there are no shots of the intakeso it is kinda hard to guess.

My big question is what type of BFG's are those.

It is not a type 1 it is a type 4 vw motor You can get the exhaust from FAT performance.  I also wanted to know the tranny so I asked chris at allpro. He said it is a vw motor hook up to a power glide to an atlas tcase. Hope this clears things up.
