I am in the middle of a motor/transmission swap.  I am putting a 97 4runner 5vz-e and a340f transmission into a 95 4runner. I have the motor running fine. My problem is that I was able to drive the truck about 100 yards and then the  transmission stopped shifting.  The truck is now stuck in neutral.  I was able to push it back to my driveway, but cannot figure out why it is stuck in neutral.  I have checked. And the flywheel bolts are tight and I am not getting any CEL codes to indicate the transmission is having problems. If anyone has any ideas I need somewhere to start and some ideas for diagnosis. Thanks.

Linkage good?  Did you drain the fluid and forget to refill?
Relentless

Linkage is set to factory specs, and I filled it.  I have geared duals behind it and I checked the transfer cases while I was shifting through the transmission and those gears weren't moving either.

Okay. New issue. Now the transmission is working the gears in both transfer cases are spinning, but I'm not gettin any power to the front or rear driveshafts.  Any ideas.  Stock front case 4.7's in the rear and twin sticks.

your front t case isnt stuck between gears is it or in neutral  :smack:  like when you put the shifter down in kit didnt slide in where it needed to be

What he said.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

No. My front case wasn't in neutral.  I kinda gave up a bit on the transmission and decided to just work on the t-case leak.  I seperated the cases from the transmission and saw a lot of red ATF coming from one of the front holes of the transfer case. HMMMM that's not right. Then I saw that the rear seal on the transmission was in pretty bad shape and there was ATF flowing from that also. HMMMM thats not right.

I think that with the bad seal, the ATF was flowing into the t-cases while the engine was running causing the transmission to lose hydraulic pressure.

Now for another issue I found. The rear drive shaft flange is very loose and leaking from there also. What else do I need other than the output seal to tighten that up. Thanks.

a new stake nut i would never reuse them torque it to spec then take a chizzel and stake it in the slot on the shaft
