85 Red extra cab pickup stolen in Fresno Wyoming plates
« on: Mar 06, 2011, 12:32:53 PM »
Has a push bar on front Wyoming plate # 13 5479.  Front bumper is missing end caps and the windshield is broken.  Running small tires with black rims.  There is only one mirror on the drivers side now.   Ill try to get some more pictures.  This is for a friend of mine.  It was in her apartment parking lot near Fresno and Barstow.
Thanks

I printed the picture, got eyes also in 559.  I hate when people take other people's things.  One time some puck tried to break in to my rig, I caught him pulling on the handle.   So I walked over to him and asked if he had locked the keys in the car.  He said yes, and I pulled out mykeys and said it might help if you had these, and chased him down, and whooped his you know what so bad, he was cryin'.  I'll keep an eye out and if I see it, I will stop him,.

I'm confused did the tow company find the truck or the girl? :gap: Seriously, glad she got her truck back with little to no damage.

Glad to hear they found your truck.  Usually though, the tow yard contacts either you or the cops.  When my sister's car got stolen, the tow yard called us the next day.  They said from the vin#.  I was told they  call the vin # in to see if the car was reported stolen to get contact with the owner.  Just wondering how you were contacted.  Also, how long was it in the tow yard before contacting you?

The tow yard called her.  I don't know how long the tow yard had it.

Surprising that the tow yard would have called, in fact they would have no access to any info on the phone #.  If the police did not contact her by phone or mail she should contact them to make sure they show it as recovered. If it still shows as stolen she should not drive it until it shows as recovered in the system or she could lose it again when an officer comes across it. Even if she is driving it they can and will take it away from her. Also make sure they are an authorized police tow yard, if not something is fishy. I've never ever known or heard of the tow co. calling the owner of the vehicle of its recovery or even a general impound. Notification by the tow yard is generally done by mail through the DMV via a Liensale notice, not by phone. This is processed through a separate company that is bonded with the state.

Rocksurfer, I didn't know they usually don't call the owner.  O just figured with the vin or something, they find out the owner through DMV or something.  That's good to know, hopefully I won't ever be in that situation, or anyone else, but good to know.

Yeah it is what I do here so I deal with it every day. The info to the tow co. would be limited, I thought about it a little more and if they are a contractor for the PD they could get the phone # from the CHP 180 form if the officer happened to write it on there when he was working on the recovery. Still the tow company has no responsibility to call anyone, that would have been the officers job, he would have also mailed a half copy of the CHP 180 to the R.O.'s address. The tow company would have notified the R.O. too but only through DMV records and by certified mailing.

Then again these departments are always trying to shift the responsibility of different aspects to others to save money, we do most of the paperwork for them now and they just mail it out since it is still their responsibility by law. Just recently we were informed that we are now going to take care of scofflaw vehicles and the fines, there are going to be a lot of pissed off people in L.A. over that one.
