I've heard ATF can be used as a detergent but don't run it under load or for very long, more like put it on jack stands and run it through all the gears then drain run regular gear oil drain then top off with the good stuff. Done it with big trannys like clarks and NP.
yes, I'd run cheap gear oil to do the flush.
Boo take my turtle point, ATF if the best way to flush a trans or engine that has had it oil turn to peanut butter. Must not have done enough mechanics to know what I'm talking about.
. im an auto 160 certified mechanic. no where does it say ATF is the best way to flush a manual trans or engine.
Lol you're ASE certed who gives a it doesnt mean diddly anymore.. ATF has been widely known to be used as a detergent to clean out engines and other things. Just because your little book says its not right or doesnt say anything about it doesnt mean it doesnt work or is bad. You just have to know what the hell you are doing.
Good lord man You're thinking too literally, something that will get you in lots of trouble if you're actually going to be a tech. Nobody is suggesting he run atf for an extended period of time, but that he should use it temporarily to help flush it out. I don't see how it could get any simpler to explain
