Installing 22RE, Easiest with Lower Intake on or off?
« on: Jan 20, 2011, 07:59:52 AM »
Getting ready to drop a rebuilt 22RE in my 88 pickup. I have always put them in without the lower intake on so it was easy to get all the lower stuff bolted on and hooked up without having to work through the wheelwell. Work my way up from the bottom.

I was thinking about bolting up the lower intake and getting the water lines, exhaust (EGR) tube, and emission crap all in place first this time.

What do most of you guys do?

You'll be okay with it on....if you take it off, you're gonna have a harder time bolting it back on the block w/ limited space.

Thanks,

I'll try putting it on first this time.

I have droped complete motors that are pretty much turn key in and it is so much easyer.  Just have everything on before that you would have to get to through the fender.

I pull the engine wiring harness from the computer and put it on the completed 22RE. Then you just drop the whole thing in, connect the computer and grounds, motor mounts, transmission, drop the radiator/shroud in, and put the rad hoses and intake on.

thats the easiest way to have all your wiring done with the exception of the tranny and pull the harness out thro the fire wall i find it easier to bolt everything on while its on a stand than in the truck with limited space thats how id do it
