Yup,  for those of you who read my previous post about my strange looking junkyard rear axle.  I tore it appart just now and it has 43 teeth on the ring gear and 14 on the pinion.  Thats 3.07.  It can't be out of a 2wd truck, it's six lug and has thirty spline axles.  Other than the one long stud and the three inch wide perches the housing is exactly the same as the "normal" one I just bought from nate.  Any thoughts?

Maybe the PO had a v8 and put taller gears in?  Otherwise I've never seen taller than 3.41(?), but that's in a 2wd.  Strange to say the least,    Nate

Maybe out of a 1ton with an auto??
'84 Hilux, locked, dual-cased, winched, EFI converted, 37" tired, half-doored (in the summer...)
'87 Supra, 400 HP.  smooth as glass at 130 'cause my tires are NEW!...
'92 F250 Diesel, tow rig, ATS Turbo, leveling kit, killer stereo

Hey Nate.  Maybe I can talk you out of selling that other broken third you have?  Then I can gear it and put it in this housing, rather than having this oddball pumpkin.

I'll stew on it for a while...........

the 8" could come with 3.07's, but i have never seen any.
not much use for that high of a gear for us crawlers.

3.08s were common in '80s 2wd 4 speeds.  for some reason i can't figure out, every 4 speed toyota 2wd has had an 8" rear axle underneath it.

sounds like somebody swapped it in...the '90 axle i bought for $100 a while back had a 4.38 third(only aviailable in '79-80) which came in handy when my '79's rear R&P grenaded

Thanks Derek!!!  Thats all I wanted to know.  So what I have does exist.  Cool.  I still dont want this chunk though.  On second thought I might just keep it on the shelf in my garage so I can say I have one.

Ok I finally found a set of these in a yard.  It was an old 2wd with a wierd axle code I'd never seen before, G66.  Checked when I got home and it was 3.07.  Truck had an automatic, can't imagine runnin these in a truck with a stick.  They'd be great freeway runners as long as you had no big hills, or in a 4by with a powerful v6 or v8.
