84 4Runner front axle Problem

well guys few weeks ago i was driving my Runner and 15-20ft before make my stop, my Runner make same loud nose and damn he stop abrupt. i try to move away from traffic but i can't. i call my AAA Road side service ( I highly recommend AAA road side) he tow my runner at my friend shop  and he say my  front diff. drive pinion/gear bad he remove the front drive line, so the way can drive my runner again, but another friend say maybe can be wheel bearing ( i don't thing so ) or maybe the front/rear gear bearings. so what u guy thing.

it should still move if the hubs are unlocked dont need to take drive shaft out if its in 2 wd and unlocked if still want move look into wheelbearings or breaks

If it was a wheel bearing, that would not let your truck move.  Then removing the shaft and unlocking hubs won't do you a bit of good.  :twocents:

I think you should start taking it apart and look. Can you put the front end on jack stands and turn the tires by hand? Can you spin the driveshaft by hand?
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

This coming Friday I going to put the front end on jack to check brakes, wheel bearings and lock/unlock my hubs, I wish not replace or re-gear my axle.

I let u guys know if something happens.

finally after new year celebration I put the front end on jack stands. 1., i go check the wheel bearing I turn the tires by hand and turn nice and Free. 2., i lock/unlock my hubs and work good. drive shaft is out but my front gear not turn so maybe shuold be ring and pinion?  :smack:

If the hubs are unlocked and it is in 2wd the front R & P will have nothing to do with it.

How does it feel when you spin the driveshaft by hand?

he said the drive shaft is out.sounds like he tryied turning the flange by hand but it want turn

Yea, my driveshaft is out and I can't turn My flange by hand is it's Locked up.
