buying 3rz

my friend is putting a cummins 4bt in his 98 tacoma and said he would sell me his 3rz but doesnt know how much he wants for it. it has 170,000 miles any ideas what its worth and it would be going in my 79 toy any help would be great thanks.

i  dont know much about them will they last much longer its his daily driver its runs great and no oil leaks.

What kind of maintenance did he keep on it?  Religious oil changes, valve adjustments, timing chain replaced?  Do a compression check on it.  Also does that include wiring harness, ECM, transmission bellhousing?  I wouldn't pay more than 1,000.  Look on craigslist and other 4x4 websites, see how much those guys are selling them for.  I bought an entire tacoma for 900$, it wasn't running but in the end I was able to part it out for more then I bought it for.  And besides, if he is your friend he should cut you a deal.

$500 plus help him remove the engine from the truck/help put the new one in is what I'd offer.

he said find out how much they are going for and he will sell it to me for half price. changed the oil evey 3000 miles thats about it. yes i get wire harness ecm and trans he is going back with an auto and 1 ton running gear.
