An 83 short bed, with a 4.7 tundra V8 swap from a wrecked truck.  Running Dana 60's, 40's, custom front end body work to fit the motor, along with a decent stereo to play"She thinks my tractor's sexy".

I'd say go with a first gen Taco ext cab... you can probably find one in that price range for a DD

If I had another 5k to blow, I'd buy a doner taco w/ 3.4 5 speed and swap into my truck.

Maroon sr5 3rd gen extra cab with the sunroof and electric windows, 3.0 so I could put a 3.4 in it when it blows up. I dd a 97 tacoma everyday and i like it a lot, but I would trade it out for this set up anyday.

Edit: Dang, seen you already got something. By the way nice poor mans tacoma :gap:

Definitely manual, and only motors I would get are 22re or 3.4. It depends hugely on if this is a commuter or a toy or both. Also, where do you live cause some places not having good/any a/c can be a deciding factor for some people. I went with 22re regular cab short bed pickup and have never regretted it but it's not my DD (unless my DD isn't running which happens now and again)

I would pay someone to professionally swap in a smog legal V8 in to my 83. Carbureted 4cylinder suck.  :gay:

whats funny is i can truely say i had 5k to spend on a truck about 5 months ago and here is what i got:

this is what came on the truck when i got it for $3300
84 extra cab
dual ultimate built by marlin
allpro lift
allpro high steer
5.29s
arb front and detroit rear
flatbed
cab cage
rebuilt less then 10K 22r
tg duals skid
sliders
allpro winch bumper
good bilsteins f/r
35" mtr's

she wasnt the prettiest but its def come a long way since i got it

now stuff i added with the extra 1600(100 went to buddy for towing it back for me)

30 spline longs and chromo hub gears
full knuckle rebuild including wheel and trunion bearings
diff gaurds f/r(wouldnt have gotten a rear but my housing had a bad dent on the ring gear portion)
creeper gussets
ballistic fab truss
a new weber 32/36
and other small random little things that needed fixed

at this point its got even more past the 5k, probly around 7k now and almost finished.

84 xtra cab, dauls W/4.7, 5.29s, detroit rear/arb front, caged, longs, recentered H1s and 37s, my DD
