i would steer away from mile marker.  There customer service is junk.  I bought mine.  They told me I had a year warranty on it.  First the cable broke one of the first times I used it, and I was pulling straight on flat ground in a toyota on 31's.  Definitely shouldn't of broke.  They said they wouldn't warranty that because it was due to abuse.  A bunch of BS.  Then the computer went out on it and it wouldn't winch in or out.  Brought it back and they said they wouldn't warranty it because they no longer made that model.  I would never recommend anyone to buy a mile marker.  Go harbor freight if you want to save some money.  They at least stand behind their product.

i had great customer service through mile marker.  i had my winch for a year before i even opened the box, put it on used it alot for the first couple months pullin anything i could hook it to.  one day hooked to something turned it on and it wouldnt do anything.  called customer service told them what happened, they told me they didnt make my model anymore so they sent me a completely new updated elect box for it, control, cables, hat and all, everything that comes in the box besides the actual winch, they could have told me shove it lol.  theres good and bad to em all i would think but they more than did me right, and the price versus a warn of equal size, didnt fit my budget, if i had the money i wouldve went with a warn no doubt, but i cant say one bad thing about the mile marker.

i had bad experience with mail marker..my electric box on top of the winch broke and it took MM 4 months to send a new one..and i had to pay for it too cuz they claimed it was not under warranty

Iv been told on the warns that they use the same motor on a few different models so theyre a lot slower espicially with the larger rated ones because they just change the gear sets. :dunno:

A friend has a Ramsey 10k on the front of his 08 tacoma and we used the hell out of it over the weekend and it never had any problems at all and it pulls fairly fast even under full load. :twocents:

I’ve had the Harbor Freight 8000# and it was junk, in my opinion. It had a painfully slow line speed unloaded and when actually loaded it was a lot worse. Also, it’s not weather proof at all. Mine stopped working after 3 years and maybe 6 or 7 recoveries, so I took it apart and the electric motor was full of rust and moisture. I tried to clean it out but it was too far gone. I had never submerged it, just sat outside in the rain on the bumper of my truck.

I got a used Warn M8000 and love it. I scoured the internet for months until I found a decent deal on one. Paid $250 for it from a member of this board. After purchase I took it apart to re-grease the planetary and inspect the motor just for piece of mind. Everything inside looked perfect. It’s much better in every aspect than the HF unit. Line speed is 5x faster, overall quality and fit finish is way, way better. The Warn is twice the price new, but I feel it’s at least 4x better than the harbor freight unit. Don’t make the same mistake I did. Can’t comment on the Smittybuilt or the Mile Marker, but Warns have a great reputation and are made in the USA.

Just my 2 cents.

I have a Ramsey 8K that i bought used for $300. i know its been well used by that guy and its getting a good workout from me and it still pulls like a champ. the guy i bought it from said that some of the parts for it ( his repairs have been mostly electrical related) are expensive cause there is no aftermarket parts companies for them so you have to buy straight from them. i havent had any issues with it, but he replaced all the electronics so i should be in the clear for a while.

but thats my story and  :twocents:, i guarantee someone out there has had a better or worse experience.
