Check the signal wire from the distributer to the igniter for continuity. Sounds like a loose connection in the plug or the distributer or even a broken section of wire inside the insulation.

By chance have you checked the ign switch wire harness? I had a issue of my truck just shutting off driving down the road, couldn't figure it out thought it was a ground/short problem, igniter-coil,dist pick -up changed them all out and it turned out to be the ign switch harness in the steering column not making contact intermittently in the rotory part of the switch.

So I tried eerything and last. Thing I tried turning it over with the cap. Off and tdhe rotr doesntturn. With the engine but chain is good so I'm replacin the dizzy it looks like thw pin snaped in the dizzy shaft btw I'm mobile. Right now so if my typing aucks sory lol

sorry forgot all about i posted this finally yes it turned out to be the little condenser/resistor that has 1 or 2 wires off it that is bolted down with coil some setups have one wire others have 2 wires and some look like a black Lil box others like and old style condenser

so how did you replace it is there a name for that thing at say an auto parts store?

i couldnt tell you i just had a few sitting around all i know is it can cuz many many ignition issues it will act like a shorted out coil or ignitor
