Just got a new trail rig/winter ride. 83 22R toyota pickup, completely stock for now  :sleepy: Any ways looking at putting disk brakes in the rear, whats the chance of a 04 disk brake rear axle will work in a 83? Anyone done that, I know their are conversion kits but I might be able to get the axle for cheap.

So any advantages/disadvantages on a 04 axle? Or just buy disk for the rear and the chevy calipers and make my own bracket, then put a proportioning valve in?

Any links to how to will help.

Thanks Guys, can't wait till I get her on the trail.

Im sure you could get the rear conversion kit for way cheaper. You will need front spacers/adapters to match the extra width and there was a design change so you would need to fab/weld in new spring perches. Somone correct me if Im wrong?

So far the conversions i've looked at have been around 300. JY axle around here is 150

yotatough

the 04 axle will be alot wider than what your running now

Troublemaker

How much wider is a 04 rear end?

I think I am going to make my own. Heres the plan;

88 Monte Carlo Calipers, Pads, Slide pins.
89 Chevy K1500 1/2 Ton 4WD front disks
3/8 Home made brake bracket for Carlo Pads
Summit Racing proportioning valve (unless some one knows where to get one in Canada)

I know I am going to have to do a few things with the brakes, my lines are rusted out so I will run a new line from the passenger front wheel all the way to the rear rubber line. After the rubber line I am going to make a new set for the rear axle with yota bolts on one end and Carlo bolts on the other.

So can I just run a brake line straight into the caliper or do I have to do the banjo bolt crap?
