There is a connector under the hood, short the pins together with the key on and count the flashes of the check engine light to see what code you have. A shop manuel will give you code descriptions and what to check for. Or post what code you have and I will look in mine, may be a little different though I have an 1985.

X2, w/o codes it is hard to guess.

If the CEL pops on when you rev the engine past 2500rpms or so, it could be that the knock sensor didn't get plugged in when you swapped the engines, or the wire may have been damaged.

@snowtoy yea the check engine light comes out when i rev it.  were exactly is the knock sensor located? thanks

Snowtoy

The Knock sensor is located on the right(passenger side) side of the block, between the oil filter and the fuel filter, w/a green(maybe yellow) connector IIRC.

The location is circled here in red in this Pic from Yotatech.

@snowtoy thanks a lot man... that fixed it... the new sensor on the donor engine was a different plug so the wire didn't exactly fit.. so i had to get the original one off the old engine and replace it.. thanks again..
