I just found this kit. Sky-Manufacturing. Anyone tried it out yet? What IFS hubs will work on the solid front axle?

Are you talking about their spacer kit that we are talking about over here?

That looks pretty interesting, has anyone used it??

if u want to widen ur solid axel i would just put wheel spacers in the front and then in the rear put an IFS rear end housing.there 3 in wider so u put 1.5 wheel spacers on each side

I wont run spacers on anything I drive.  Its not that they arent safe by any means, its just personal preference.  I used 94 ifs hubs, 78 cruiser rotors with 94 calipers.  I moved the caliper to the frontside of the knuckle.

im running sky's axle widening kit right now, i heard to many horror stories about running wheel spacers. i used my manual hubs and ifs calipers from my 94 and used marlins vented rotors. turned out pretty nicely

I refuse to run spacers also.

I am planning a SAS on my 87 Turbo Truck and am looking for options.  Since I don't have a Toy front axle yet I am open to suggestions.  But I will not run spacers.

Curious wy people refuse to run spacers...

Im too lazy to take the tires off and check the torque on yet another set of lugnuts, I check my lugnuts often enough but I dont feel like taking the tires off to check the other ones.  Well that and Ive much better things to spend my $$ on.

What he said.  Its an extra link in the chain, 1 more point of failure, 1 more thing to keep an eye on.  There's a reason no racetrack with let you run spacers, I know must of us don't race our trucks.  But in the drag, road, and autocross racing worlds spacers are not allowed as a safety precaution.

And on top of all that, it's cheesey.  No offense to anyone, but it is.

I've seen tons of guys run spacers in the autocross world (Honda Civics and Acura Integras running really wide 13 inch wheels and race rubber).  Once again, you have to check them offen and get the proper torque on them.

OK whatever, maybe I'm wrong.  Maybe you can use them in limited scenarios.  But I still wont run spacers on anything I own.  Cheesey.

So it sounds like the sky kit is the way to go, I put a 88 rearend in my 82 4WD and the front looks stupid because its so much narrower than the rear.  I need to fix it!   :ack:

I can buy the "don't want to constantly have to check torque" on wheel spacers... Makes sense.

Keep in mind that Sky's kit is behind the hub - between the hub and the rotor.  Should be no need to constantly check torque as they are not subject to the same stresses as hub-based spacers.  Put some red-locktite on them and forget 'em.

I run the 3/4" spacers on both of my trucks w/ no problems.  Not ideal, I agree, but never been a problem.  If I had an unlimited budget, I'd run an FRORF front axle to eliminate the need...

i have the sky widening kit.works great. i used my stock 94 4x4 wheel hub, widening kit,fj rotors, stock calipers. havent had any trouble with anything.

how the heck do you break this??? its pretty much a solid peice of steel. it holds almost no load besides for braking.

Soryry, not anymore.  Because of spacers becoming cheaper and much higher quality (rare occurance).  We discontinued our Wide kits a few months back.  Oursa ran 299, but was machined in one setup, perfectly concentric, perfectly parrallel.  We also include bushings to shim from the 15mm hole in the rotor to a standard size for a no slop fit.  If you want you rotors located radially, and have all the braking/shearing force on 2 pins, and undersized bolts, go for it.  Ill take some red loctite, and decent spacers any day over that!

Brian, can you elaborate on this some more??

My original comment was directed at the FRORF housing - it's beefy and definitely part of the "ultimate toy front axle" consideration.

Beef, and custom widths available that allow you to match the width of the rear housing.
