drum brake fitament
« on: Nov 25, 2010, 07:34:19 PM »
Hey guys

For yhanks giving i got to rebuild my rear brakes. I am having a problem getting the new drums to fit on the assembly after putting new shoes and wheel cylinders on. The e brake is not engaged at all because the lever is fully in the back position.

I have yhe adjustter set to pull the shoes in all the way to the minimum.

Any ideas?

They are all napa parts

Tried that already. Ive moved all the components around to check if any were binding up. Even took it all apart and put it back together.

Im stumped

Pics ?  Your saying the drum does not go back on, with the adjuster backed off and everything is the way it should be ?  Did you try rotating the drum all 6 possible ways ?  Maybe a warped drum ?  Wrong part ?

Had a buddy that had the same problem a few years back. On the aftermarket shoes he bought the slots for the e-brake bar was not deep enought. He got a set of OEM shoes and all was well.

so i got new shoes from napa and they fit now so thats a relief. but i have another question.

I put new studs on and the drum fits on the studs put theres a little bit of play left and right to make contact with the stud. Is that normal?

Do i have the wrong drum now too?

thanks guys

A little play around the studs is normal.

So now that everything is finished i have a leak some where that is sucking in alot of air because my rear brakes will not bleed theres so much air. Used 2 pints of brake fluid already. So now its a matter of tracing down the leak. Im pretty sure its the MC sucking in all the air. I will keep you guys updated.

Thanks for all the help guys!

So it was the master cylinder and my pedal pressure is descent now. But now the brake lights work some times and sometimes they dont. I think the sensor might have broke when i bled the brakes. Sigh.

Sonafter that its now time to track down a rear end vibration. I think its my damn ring and pinion.... Money pits are ftw but i still love my truck. But she gets to sleep on the couch for a few weeks. Haha

Turns out that i just had bad contact with the terminals, cleaned em and everything is well. Also tightened up my driveline bolts(DERP!) and all vibrations are gone now! haha!
