Ok, so elaborate on the poll choices:

Option 1:  This would be a stock 91 toy rear with an e-locker and 5.29's rear discs.  Front would be an 84-85 axle with 5.29's, longs, and e-locker widened w/IFS hubs.

Option 2:  Stock 91 rar with e-locker and 5.29's rear discs.  Front D44 shortened long side with 5.38's and open unitl I could afford an ARB.

Option 3:  14FF rear either stock 67" width or narrowed with C&C hubs, discs, 5.13's or 5.38s and either a Detroit or spool.  Front would be a D60 narrowed with matching gears and an ARB when I could afford it.  Both shaved.

I will be running 35's when I get it on the road and having it be a DD/ weekend wheeler for now.  Then down the road it will be a full time wheeler with 38's or so...  I've been thinking of going 1 ton right off the bat so I wouldn't have to worry about axle breakage at all.  But now I am debating since I see Marlin running toy axles and alot of others.

I posted this over on POR a while back and got some good responses.  Had my mind made up to go with the one ton axles, but now I am second guessing myself so I came here.

What would you do?

TIA!

Toyota parts are plenty strong and are affordable compared to heavy custom stuff.

38's should be ok with toyota axles, assuming you stuff the front with long's goodies.  Any bigger than 38's and driving style has a HUGE input on wether or not your stuff breaks.  Just drive sensibly and you should be ok, especially if you stick with a toyota engine.  My opinion is that it is the hi torque V8's that really break schit....

There are 9.25" Land Cruiser axles :yesnod: and the front axle is 2.5 inches wider than the 85 solid axle :driving:

The only downfall of Toyota's are the birfields.  Upgrade these and no problems.

#1, you can always sell them later down the road and go full widths.

When I built my toyota buggy everyone said to go dana 60's. Screw them all. Yeah dana 60's are strong but everyone runs them. I like it when someone asks what kind of drivetrain I am running and I can pridefully say, ALL TOYOTA!

plus with the new 30-spline birfs out, the toy fronts are as strong as a dana 60.
